IL 47° SALONE NAUTICO INTERNAZIONALE CHIUDE CON UN AUMENTO DI
OPERATORI ECONOMICI E PRESENZE ESTERE

14 October 2007 - Genoa 47th international boat show closed today, recording an increase in the number of economic operators and foreigners - a top-quality event for the local territory as a whole - people queued to take pictures of the soccer world cup
Genoa forty-seventh International Boat Show - which was officially opened on 6 October by the Italian Minister for Economic development, Mr Bersani - closed today. It was once again a world-class Show, extremely appreciated by the public. The final estimated show attendance is 327 thousand visitors, with a considerably growth in the number of professional operators (approximately one fourth of the overall figure) and foreigners (around 15%), all data which bear witness to the increasing prestige and international visibility of this event. It should also be highlighted that, year after year, the city as a whole is getting increasingly involved and ready to open up to and come to terms with the needs and constraints imposed by the show.Fiera di Genova SpA’s Chairman, Mr Paolo Lombardi, expressed his great satisfaction: “The Show has confirmed it is a reference international meeting point for all those who operate in the boating industry and for the boating industry, and has made an impressive leap forward as regards the quality of facilities, products, and services, as well as in terms of the visitors’ interest and competence. It has become even more enjoyable, and accessibility to the fairground has improved thanks to the local authorities’ great commitment in this respect. Now that the Boat Show is over – added Mr Lombardi – the building site for the completion of Pavilion B will re-open. The final objective is to complete construction works by 14 September 2008, in time for Genoa 48th International Boat Show, which will greatly benefit from the new exhibition spaces signed by Jean Nouvel. In the meantime, Fiera di Genova is urging Genoa Port Authority to call the “service conference” aimed at identifying the geographic, urban, and landscape features that the Nautical Basin will have to take on in order to contribute to Genoa's further development, by turning our fair & exhibition centre into a real "hinge" between the city and the port, while increasing its international competitiveness. Our 2007 activities will now continue with seven events, including: TECHNOFOLIES, which has opened up to foreign markets thanks to the agreement signed with Messe Stuttgart; the debut of NUOVA, the trade fair devoted to innovation and research (which will further enrich ABCD - Pianeta educazione); and the debut of EUROCOAT, the international trade fair for the colour industry. “Genoa Boat Show – declared Mr Anton F. Albertoni, UCINA President – has confirmed once more it is a leading event at a worldwide level. The number of exhibitors manufacturing and selling medium/large boats has increased compared to last year, just like the number of sales of this type of crafts. The exhibitors - for whom our Boat Show is an excellent, unique opportunity - have expressed their great satisfaction. Many foreign visitors from countries where boating is a new phenomenon have visited the show this year. As regards small boats, although there was a wide range of them on display a the Show, the current market situation in this specific sector differs from the general one: the domestic market is still recording a downward trend, and this has an impact on manufacturing and on the performances of the companies with very limited exports. Our Association’s commitment to support the Italian boating industry was the first subject submitted to Minister Bianchi, who visited the Show on Saturday. We have agreed upon an agenda whose implementation – starting next week – will focus on the priorities outlined by UCINA. The Italian Minister for University and Research, Mr Fabio Mussi (who has always been a sailing enthusiast) privately visited the Show this morning. “I have always taken part in regattas, since I was child” said Mr Mussi, but then he added he might be ready to “be converted” to powerboats soon: “I am getting older, now, and my family are urging me to buy a motor boat - I like small traditiona fishing boats, I know there are a few on display at the Show.. We'll see...". Many visitors queued today at the Sea Theatre to admire and take pictures of the soccer World Cup, which was welcomed by Fiera di Genova’s Chairman and UCINA’s President after reaching the Show by sea escorted by the Italian Minister for Transport, Mr Bianchi, the President of the Italian Soccer Federation, Mr Abete, and Genoa Municipal Councillor for Sport, Mr Striano. The World Cup then left the Show at 2.30 pm. At 5.00 pm the Show’s Flagship upped anchor: the “Santa Maria”, Perini Navi’s wonderful 56- metre ketch, and Overmarine’s Mangusta 165 Open, the largest standard open in the world.
Some figures..
The overall number of exhibitors at Genoa 47th International Boat Show was 1,500, 37% of whom from abroad. There were 2,300 boats on display, including 426 new ones, over a total surface of 300 thousand square metres, 100,000 of which in the water. 16,500 bracelets were distributed to allow the visitors to leave the fairground and then re-enter it on the same day – this bears witness to the great interest for Genoa’s ever-increasing tourist offer, including exhibitions, shows, and unique shopping opportunities; 60,000 people used the ferry-boat connecting the fairground to the Old Port and to Molo Archetti in Pegli: more than 30,000 entrance tickets to the Show were sold at the New Marina entrance. More than ninety events took place during the Show: conferences, debates, presentations, and sports competitions; 1,200 people took part in the events held at the Sea Theatre (35 hours of shows, ceremonies, and presentations overall), while nearly 400 children were invovled in the teaching project devoted to Genoese schools and carried out in cooperation with daily paper Il Secolo XIX and Ignazio Messina & Co. 700 delegates attended the five institutional conferences sponsored by UCINA. As part of the “Welcoming Project", implemented in cooperation with Genoa Chamber of Commerce, over 60 thousand visitors took advantage of the shuttle service connecting the Show to the city centre and the Rivieras. 500 thousand users visited the Boat Show’s web site, recording almost 3 million pages viewed; the average session time exceeded five minutes and the average number of pages read by each visitor was more than seven. The virtual visitors connected to the Show’s web site from 132 different countries; 5,197 tickets were sold on-line. The Press Centre accredited 1,552 journalists, 147 of whom were foreigners, representing 31 countries: Argentina, Belgium, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, China, Croatia, Finland, France, Germany, Great Britain, Greece, Hungary, Luxemburg, Malta, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, the Principality of Monaco, Romania, Russia, Serbia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey, Ukraine, United Arabian Emirates, United States. The Show was visited by several Italian Government representatives (Ministers Bianchi, Mussi, and Bersani, and Deputy Minister De Piccoli, responsible for recreational boating), sports champions, stars from the show business, and cultural representatives. Genoa 48th International Boat Show will be held from 4 to 12 October 2008.
